The Common Data Set
The Common Data Set (CDS) was created in response to increasing requests for data from colleges and universities. The CDS is a means for colleges and universities to collect and report comparable data, using standardized definitions, to higher education data providers and publishers, such as US News, College Board, and Petersons etc. Questions and definitions used by the U.S. Department of Education in its higher education surveys often serve as a guide in the continued development of the CDS.
Goals of the CDS include improving the accuracy and comparability of information reported about higher education and reducing the reporting burden on data providers. For more information, visit http://www.commondataset.org.
