Financial Aid Applications

For the academic year 2008-2009, which is effective July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009, the following must be completed and returned to our office in order to have your file reviewed for financial aid:

After you complete the FAFSA, the processor will send a Student Aid Report (SAR) to your home and the electronic copy to Life. Read your SAR carefully. If you are selected for a process called verification, further information will be required; such as, you and your spouse's 2006 Federal Tax Return, Life University financial aid verification worksheet, etc. No further processing of your application will take place until all the information has been received. Avoid delays by responding quickly and completely to any requests from the Financial Aid Office. All paperwork must be received in the Financial Aid Office at least 2 weeks before the end of the term for which you want aid.

When your file is complete, the Financial Aid Office will send you an eligibility letter explaining the types of aid for which you may qualify. Separate applications are required for some grants and loans. Your eligibility is contingent upon your complying with all financial aid requirements including the Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements of Life University. You can track the status of your Financial Aid paperwork and awards on WebAdvisor.

We will certify your Stafford loans electronically provided your lender is Life University, AMS Education Loan Trust, or Suntrust. If you are a new or re-entering student, you will need to complete a Master Promissory note online at www.nelnet.net. If you are a returning student, your loan will be processed for the amounts listed on your eligibility letter. If you use a lender other than Life University, AMS, or Suntrust, please submit your loan application to our office for certification. Notify the Financial Aid Office in writing if you wish to deny or reduce any aid awarded.

Once you have completed all the paperwork listed above, have grants and loans processed, and have completed a Master Promissory Note, your money comes to the Student Accounts Office. Once the loan money is received, your tuition and fees for the quarter will be deducted from this amount. If a credit exists, a refund check will be processed for you to use towards books and living expenses. You can expect your living expense refund check approximately 1 to 2 weeks after the quarter begins. Therefore, it is important that you plan your finances accordingly. Contact the Accounting Office for further details and/or exact dates of refund disbursement.
