EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN
Life University is committed to protecting the health and safety of all students, staff, faculty and visitors at all times. In conjunction with this commitment is the inherent responsibility for minimizing any danger to life and property resulting from the effects of a threat, explosion, hazardous waste spill, fire, natural disaster or other events. When an emergency occurs, an immediate organized response by university personnel will be activated. The Life University Emergency/Disaster Response Plan establishes the framework from which the University will provide this response. Our efforts in this area will only be effective through a cooperative effort by all university staff, faculty, and students.
The purpose of this emergency plan is to define procedures and tactics for responding to specific types of emergencies on the Life University campus. The main focus of these procedures is the protection and safety of the student body, the faculty and staff of Life University, the general public, and response personnel during emergencies involving the University.
The Department of Public Safety has the primary responsibility of providing initial response to incidents on campus and to notify appropriate outside authorities. Two individuals have been designated to perform the duties of primary and secondary Emergency Coordinators in the event of an emergency.
The Emergency Coordinator has the authority to commit the necessary services and equipment to control the scene. In the event of an emergency involving outside response agencies, the Emergency Coordinator's primary responsibility is to provide support in the form of information regarding the materials or facilities involved and to access University resources as requested.
Public Safety respondents' primary purpose is site control: controlling the flow of people, emergency equipment and supplies. These controls are necessary to minimize injuries and confusion. They are the center for radio communications by acquiring all essential information and assuring clear communication of information to emergency response personnel and the Emergency Coordinator.
