Life University Signs Top Basketball Players
It has been seven years since Life University has signed a new player to their basketball team. Today, Life has signed its second starting player for their 2008-2009 NAIA Division 1 Basketball Team. During a signing ceremony at Marietta High School, Life University officially recruited senior Barrington Ferguson. Life’s Athletic Director John Barrett met with Ferguson, his parents Maxine and Barrington Sr., and MHS Head Basketball Coach Charlie Hood to explain the commitment requirements. “Barrington is an outstanding player with great potential,” said Hood. “I’m very excited to give one of my favorite players to one of my favorite coaches.” Ferguson’s parents are very “ecstatic” to keep their only son close to home. Becoming a student at Life University was always in the back of his mind, according to Ferguson, who will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science. The first player to sign a commitment to Life is LaAbrez “Tay” Barber from Chattanooga State Technical Community College. Barber is originally from Decatur, Ga, and graduated from S.W. Dekalb High School in 2005. For two years he was the starting point-guard at the community college, led by head coach Jay Price. “Tay is a very smart and quick player, definitely one of the top players in the community college scene,” said Life University Athletic Director John Barrett. “We are excited to sign a player of Tay’s caliber to our team.” The Life University athletic program is designed to provide Life students with new and exciting competitive experiences inside the classroom and on the field of competition. Life’s top priority is to nurture the student in each student athlete, while encouraging outstanding athletic performance and the dedication that drives it.
