Life University Announced "Home" for ABCA

The American Black Chiropractic Association, ABCA, has named Life University the official residence for its operation. The announcement for ABCA’s residence was made at the opening night of Life University’s 30th annual Homecoming by Dr. Guy F. Riekeman, president of Life University, and Dr. Corrine C. Morgan, president of ABCA.

Life has consistently given ABCA support by promoting the organization and its efforts. For the past 15 years, the University has hosted several of ABCA’s regional and national meetings. Out of the 16 chiropractic colleges in the nation, Life University has graduated the highest number of African American DC students. Previously, ABCA’s operation, storage of artifacts and other memorabilia were dispersed at several different chiropractic colleges. The purpose of housing the organization at LIFE is to maintain all of ABCA’s information in one place and make it accessible to students.

To promote diversity within the University, a student chapter of ABCA, SABCA, was created in 1999 and is currently led by DC student, Candice Crawford. SABCA is responsible for hosting “One on One” speaker events, Advisor Appreciation luncheons, ongoing community service projects and helping the University with student orientation. SABCA also promotes monthly health awareness information and ribbons.

“We are honored to be the permanent residence for ABCA’s distinguished history, and we anticipate moving forward with ABCA in growing the chiropractic profession,” said Dr. Jerry Hardee, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and chair of the Diversity Committee on campus.

ABCA was founded in 1982 by Dr. Bobby Westbrooks as a volunteer organization to help recruit, encourage and support black persons to study chiropractic. The organization was created in response to a pressing need for supportive services to unify minorities in the chiropractic profession.
