Financial Aid Instructions

Applying for financial aid can seem overwhelming at first. The information about the application process, required forms and deadlines included on this web page will make it simpler for you.

Life’s Priority Awarding deadline is March 15th of each calendar year. This means your FAFSA must be received by the school on or before March 15th.Students who submit their paperwork accurately by the deadline and who have the greatest financial need will be awarded campus-based aid, if funds are available.

1. Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the web:

  • You can file online for the 2015-2016 award year beginning January 1, 2015. The award year will include Summer 2015, Fall 2015, Winter 2016 and Spring 2016.
  • Be sure to include Life’s School Code 014170 when completing the FAFSA. This code will ensure Life receives your application information electronically from the federal processor.
  • Life strongly recommends using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool on the FAFSA. Click here to view a tutorial on using this tool.

2. Federal Direct Stafford or Direct PLUS Loans:

  • Entrance Counseling: complete new, or add Life’s school code (014170) to completed counseling, before receiving your loan disbursement, here.
  • Master Promissory Note: Your agreement to repay your student loan. Complete or verify you have a valid MPN, here.

3. Verification: If your FAFSA is selected by the federal government for a process called verification, you will be required to submit additional documentation to Life University. This will allow the Financial Aid Office to verify that the information on the FAFSA is correct. Students are notified via email of additional documents required.

4. Eligibility Letter: After your file has been reviewed and your financial aid eligibility determined, you will be sent an eligibility letter listing the awards comprising your financial aid package. This process usually takes about 6 weeks from when your FAFSA is received and you have been accepted to the university. Make sure to read the information contained in the award letter for further instructions.

Please keep in mind our primary means of communicating with you throughout the year will be email. In addition, it is also very important that we have your correct mailing address. Update your mailing address or email address with the Office of the Registrar.

Important Reminders:

  • Applications submitted after March 15, 2015 are still considered for other types of aid; the priority date applies only to campus-based aid (Work Study, SEOG, Perkins Loan).
  • In order to receive Federal Financial Aid, you must be a U.S. Citizen or an eligible Non-Citizen.
  • Male citizens of the U.S. and male immigrant aliens 18 through 25 years old must be registered with the U.S. Selective Service System to be eligible for federal student loans and grants.
  • Men can register with U.S. Selective Services at any post office or online.
