Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL)

The Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL) is just that – a group dedicated to empowering our faculty with the resources and support necessary to create a truly student-centered learning environment (that means one that’s all about YOU). CETL helps faculty investigate ways to inspire learning, to implement innovative teaching programs and technologies, to enhance their research and scholarship as contributors to the academic community, and to use reflection and self-evaluation as tools for personal and professional growth. In short, LIFE professors aren’t just teachers, they’re lifelong learners.

Specific Aims:

  1. To provide on-going mentoring and development in scholarship of teaching and learning trhough workshops and interactive learning environments.
  2. To provide a basis to advance instructional development through mentoring, peer-coaching, teaching improvement workshops and consultation.
  3. To prepare effective leaders who understand formal and informal leadership styles.
  4. To promote the acquisition of instructional technology tools. To provide training and support to prepare faculty to use available technology in the presentation of their instruction and research.
  5. To create an effective institutional climate that values and rewards education and research, fosters continual learning, commits resources to faculty development programs, and formulates policies and procedures that shape educational excellence and guide faculty behaviors.

Resources for faculty development, including current programs, grant request applications and information can be found on the Blackboard course "Faculty Development eCenter, FD 101."  This course is maintained by the Faculty Development Committee.
