Meal Plan FAQs

1. How do I check my balance?
To see your balance please visit Blackboard Transaction Portal.

2. Who is required to purchase a meal plan?
Beginning with the Fall Quarter 2018, all incoming freshmen will be required to purchase a meal plan. The Traveler40 will automatically be placed on the student account for freshmen residing in Life’s Village Retreat (LVR) or off campus. Freshmen staying in the Commons will have the Commons120 as the default plan. Upgrades are available if requested

3. I’m not a freshman can I buy a meal plan?
Optional (non-mandatory) meal plans for students, faculty and staff may be purchased at the Card Services Office with a credit or debit card. flexBucks can be purchased online thru the Blackboard Transaction Portal.

4. If I’m living off campus, why am I required to have a meal plan?
Meal Plans are required for all new first-time freshman for a few different reasons. First, the addition of a Meal Plan and dining hall at LIFE University will enhance the quality of campus life and increase student involvement on campus. Secondly, it affords an opportunity for commuter students to maintain appropriate nutrition during the stressful events in student life. It also provides an economic benefit in providing good nutrition at discounted rate.

5. How do I add money to my flexBucks?
You or a guest user can load money to your account at Blackboard Transaction Portal
If you are loading money use the credentials you set when you created the account. If a guest will be putting money into the flexBucks account, they will need to use the “Make flexBucks Deposit for Someone” tab located just below the login area. You cannot buy eBucks or swipes outside of a plan.

6. Can I upgrade my meal plan?
Meal plan upgrades are available through week 8 of the current quarter and all changes must be finalized by Week 0 of the upcoming quarter.

7. When will I have access to my meal swipes?
Meal swipes are effective from Sunday of Week One (1) and ends the Saturday of Week Ten (10) of each quarter. eBucks are active from Sunday of Week Zero (0) thru Saturday of Week Eleven (11) from Summer Quarter thru the following Spring Quarter. Meal plans purchased after the designated quarterly cutoff will not be pro-rated.

9. If I am faculty or staff can I purchase a meal plan?
Faculty and staff may purchase a meal plan through the card services ofice using a credit or debit card. At this time, payroll deduct is not available. The meal plans for faculty and staff do not include eBucks.

10. What’s the difference between eBucks and flexBucks?
eBucks are dollars that are loaded in conjunction with your assigned meal plan and any unused amounts roll from quarter to quarter until the end of the Spring Quarter. flexBucks are additional monies that you or a guest can load on your Eagle Card at any time during the quarter.

11. How can I obtain a meal plan exemption, if necessary?
Exemptions from the Meal Plan are rare. They are made solely for documented health conditions that require special medically necessitated diets that cannot be accommodated by Dining Services. In the rare instance that Dining Services is unable to provide a reasonable dietary accommodation, the student may be granted an exemption and may be released from the Meal Plan agreement. Please contact Dining Services to discuss specific dietary needs at cafe@life.edu.

12. Can I buy a meal for a friend?
Yes, but only using your eBucks or flexBucks funds, not with your meal swipes.

13. In what order will dollars be deducted from my Eagle Card?
They will follow this hierarchy: Swipes > eBucks > flexBucks > then other standard forms of payment (i.e. credit/debit card, cash). If you know that you want to use a method of payment, you should inform the cashier before presenting your card.

14. I’ve misplaced my Eagle Card. How do I use my meal plan in the meantime?
The dining staff have been instructed to gather your name and Eagle Card ID number at the register, and that information will be sent to Card Services to adjust your card balance.

15. I’m graduating this quarter. What happens to the flexBucks left on my Eagle Card?
flexBucks left on your card after graduation can be refunded in accordance with the University Refund Policy for Dropped Courses.
