Faculty Presenting at Ottawa Leadership Conference
Dr. Paula Billups and Dr. Marla Thompson, faculty in the undergraduate Business Administration degree program, will co-present at the International Leadership Association Conference in Ottawa, Canada, October 24-27, 2019. The theme for the conference is Leadership: Courage Required.
Drs. Billups and Thompson will present on the topic “The Courage to Reflect on your Assessment Strategy in Leadership Education.” Dr. Billups is the principal investigator for a funded research study on “Specifications Grading,” which she is conducting with other undergraduate faculty in the Natural Sciences and Psychology department. She will share the results achieved to date at Life University with the conference attendees. Dr. Thompson will share her experience with “Authentic Assessments.”
Specifications Grading is a grading system and assessment strategy based on mastery learning, clear learning objectives and frequent evaluation and feedback. Authentic assessment helps students see themselves as active participants who are working on a task of relevance rather than being passive recipients of obscure facts. In the 2019 Summer Quarter, Drs. Billups and Thompson collaborated on a class project with the students in their Leadership and Advertising courses to design a career seminar for undergraduate students.
