Q Any chance on getting Zumba classes scheduled between 4-5 or 5-6 in the future for people who can’t get out during the day and don’t want to hang around campus for and hour or 2 after work?
A We would love to accommodate everyone’s schedule, but our classes are taught by students and we have to go around their class schedules. It can become very difficult to get specific classes at specific times. However, we are so grateful that we have such a talented student body and for their dedication to teaching.
Q Can you get new mats? They smell!
A We have a few different types of mats here at the Wellness Center. We clean them regularly.
Q Can you keep the gym open later?
A On a trial run last year we allowed the gym to stay open until 11:00 pm with the help of work study staff. Attendance was monitored for 6 months. Only 1 person used the gym between the hours of 9 pm and 11 pm. We felt that we would need more evening attendance to warrant keeping the gym open later. It will require staff willing to stay until 11:00. We also have to consider budgetary constraints since we are already open 95 hours / 7 days a week.
Q Can you enlarge the facility? We’d like more space.
A We are aware that we can sometimes be very crowded during high-use times. However, it is not in the budget at this time to expand the Wellness Center.
Q Can you have everyone pay a fee to see if that reduces the size of the crowds?
A We don’t think charging money to use this facility is very student-friendly. We pride ourselves in being able to offer this to our students, staff and faculty for no charge.
Q Can you offer more ab classes, please?
A We utilize student instructors and can only have classes based on what they can teach, in sometimes a very limited amount of time. Keep in mind that just because they don’t say “ab” class does not mean that the classes don’t focus on the abdominals. Keep a close watch for our Pilates classes, yoga and the other circuit training classes.
Q Have you considered getting rings so that we can do muscle ups?
A We DO have rings!
Q It would be great if you had climbing ropes.
A We have considered adding a rope for climbing purpose, but the way the ceilings are built we’re afraid that people coming down will hold onto the ceiling and break it. The ceiling is a low-hanging suspended ceiling and very fragile. We will consider this request and talk to the maintenance people concerning installation and how it may impact our ceiling stability.
Q I suggest the hexagonal weights instead of the weights you have.
A We do realize that the weights we have do not tighten anymore. We have used lock-tite on them and at this point it just is not holding very well. We consistently tighten the weights but within a few hours they can become loose. We are checking on replacing what we have gradually with the hexagonal weights so the expense is not too extreme at one time.
Q Your Staff is awesome.
A We know!
Q Can alumni use the Wellness Center?
AAlumni can use the facility if they are a member of the President’s Circle, a PEAK Doctor or Life Force Doctor. You can contact the Presidents office for more information. Otherwise, the facility is not open to Life graduates on a regular basis and there is no membership fees. If you are in town for a seminar, we do make exceptions for you to use the facility for a few days. Please see a Wellness Center supervisor.
