Meet the Future of Research

On February 22, 2019, the Office of Sponsored Research and Scholarly Activity (OSRSA) celebrated Life University students’ achievement in research as RISE Scholarship and Funded Project recipients. “Meet the Future of Research” provided an provided opportunity for the Life University community to learn about the student projects through oral presentations and a question-and-answer session.

Life University is committed to encouraging and providing support for students to explore their ideas. The Research, Innovation, Service and Education (“RISE”) Scholarships provide opportunities for students to compete for $2,250 in scholarship funding while working under the mentorship of a Life University faculty or staff advisor on an evidence‐based research, education, service, entrepreneurial or creative project. The Funded Projects Award provides small-scale funding for students to carry out their work or to travel and present their projects at conferences and workshops or other gatherings.

OSRSA would like to thank all faculty, staff and students that supported and attended the event. If you would like to learn more about how to become a RISE or Funded Projects Scholar, please contact OSRSA@LIFE.edu or call our office at 770-426-2769.

Increase in Legitimate Emails Caught in Spam Filters

AppRiver, the system that we use to screen email for spam and viral infections, has recently adjusted their filters. As a result, they are quarantining more messages before they even hit your inbox.

AppRiver sends you an email each day titled “Held Spam Report for March DD, YYYY.”  Please review this each day. This email provides a list of all email quarantined the previous day and allows you to release the emails that were legitimate. You may also access the system by going to: www.edgepilot.com and logging in. The AppRiver website password is not linked to your LIFE password, but their site does have a “forgot password?” link on the login page that you may use to recover your password.

Once you have logged in, use the “Quarantine” tab to review and manage emails that should not have been quarantined. Just click on the checkbox in front of the emails and click the “Release” button at the top of the page. If you select the “Release” button on the following screen, the email will be released and appear in your inbox. If you select the “Release and Add to Allowed List” button, emails from that email address and or domain will no longer be quarantined.

On the “Report Settings” page, you can determine how often the quarantine reports are sent to you along with additional settings.

Outlook also filters emails that it believes to be spam and places them in the “Junk Email” folder, so don’t forget to check there too if you are looking for an expected email that never showed up. You can turn off the Outlook filtering by clicking the “Junk” dropdown button at the top of Outlook and selecting “Junk E-mail Options” and then selecting “No Automatic Filtering.” Note that emails from addresses you have marked as “Blocked Senders” will still be moved to the junk folder.

Life U Places First Student in VA Hospital PEAK Preceptorship

Senior Intern Marquise Rivera has been selected to participate in a PEAK preceptorship VA Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee during Fall Quarter 2019.

She will be working with Dr. Jason Cook and his team in the Wellness Unit. The Wellness Unit was conceived as a way to cope with the Opioid epidemic and includes Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Acupuncture, Nutrition and Emotional Support.

The intern will learn to apply chiropractic care in a multi-disciplinary, in-patient facility. They work primarily with military veterans who have conditions that have led to opioid medication use, and this program is targeted to reduce or eliminate the need for opioid medications. We are excited about the potential to place additional interns in the future.

GCA Chiropractic Day at the Capitol

Many Life University students, faculty, staff and alumni celebrated Valentine’s Day this year at the Georgia State Capitol Building for GCA’s Chiropractic Day at the Capitol. There were discussions centered on the chiropractic profession, opioid epidemic and bills to be supported, such as the H.B. 9: Fair Contract Bill and S.B. 28: Copay Bill. Students even had the chance to lobby for bills in front of legislators.

Overall, it was an amazing opportunity provided by the Georgia Chiropractic Association, and supported by the LIFE administration, for students to get a chance to effect change for the profession they will soon be entering.

Your Feedback is Needed!

Dear members of the LIFE Community,

In 2004, the Life University Board of Trustees and the University’s leadership team envisioned a 2020 Plan to guide our growth and direction. This plan was a bold vision consisting of dozens of projects designed to advance our educational mission and position Life University as vitalistic visionaries committed to creating positive change in the broader healthcare landscape.

As we near the year 2020, with most of the vision complete, it is time to create a bold new vision for the future of Life University.

To do that, we need your help.

The 2020 Plan projects have been collected into an online assessment format. We need you, as members of the Life University community, to assess these projects’ effects and their importance to you. Your feedback will help guide us in the fearless thinking that will be necessary to develop a strategic plan for the next stage of our growth as an institution.

Once we have all the feedback, it will be shared with the Life University community in a dashboard format to clearly communicate our baseline for developing the 2040 Plan and the projects needed to reach its goals.

Your assistance is crucial to creating a plan that reflects a shared vision. Please take the time to provide feedback on the 2020 Plan projects from your own, unique perspective.

Because thoughtful input is so important, people may wish to take the survey over more than one sitting. If so, you may SAVE your responses and return to the assessment at another time for completion. Click the “Save” button at the bottom of the screen, and you will be taken to a screen that shows the return link, and you can simply: a) Copy and paste it for later use, b) Bookmark that screen/page for later return, or c) Opt to receive a link to your saved responses via email. NOTE: If you are NOT taken to the return link screen when you click on “Save,” please click “Save” again.

The assessment can be accessed at this link: https://www.snapsurveys.com/wh/s.asp?k=154773749973

If you have questions, please contact Rebecca.Koch@LIFE.edu, who can assist you as needed.
