Office Summary

The Office of Civil Rights & Ombuds Services (OCROS) is a centralized and trusted resource for addressing concerns related to civil rights, interpersonal conflict, and campus climate. We offer confidential ombuds services, guide the university’s civil rights compliance efforts, lead campus-wide education on equity-related topics, and oversee the Civil Rights & Professional Conduct Board.

Mission Statement

To foster a respectful, equitable, and inclusive environment at Life University by offering confidential conflict resolution, promoting civil rights compliance, and guiding educational efforts that enhance cultural awareness and campus unity.

Key Functions

  • Ombuds Services: Offers confidential, impartial support and informal resolution options for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Civil Rights Compliance: Ensures institutional adherence to federal civil rights laws, including Title VI and Title VII.
  • Education & Awareness: Develops workshops, campaigns, and cultural observances that promote understanding, respect, and fair practices.
  • Civil Rights & Professional Conduct Board: Facilitates an impartial process to review and address reports of discrimination, bias-related incidents, and unprofessional conduct.

Educational Programs & Campus Engagement

OCROS promotes cultural awareness and community learning through:

  • Civil Rights awareness campaigns
  • Conflict resolution and bias prevention training
  • Annual cultural observances
  • Workshops on topics like navigating workplace civility, professional communication, and cross-cultural understanding

Meet the Director


Harrison Davis, Ph.D.
Director
Office of Civil Rights & Ombuds Services

Dr. Harrison Davis serves as Life University’s Director, leading the Office of Civil Rights & Ombuds Services (OCROS). In this role, he provides leadership for institutional initiatives designed to enhance campus culture, student engagement, and faculty and staff involvement. Reporting directly to the President, Dr. Davis works collaboratively with senior administrators, faculty, staff and students to foster an inclusive and engaged university community.

With over 26 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Davis has a proven record of leadership in building campus-wide engagement programs. Throughout his career, he has developed student leadership initiatives, coordinated university-wide cultural engagement programs, facilitated professional development workshops and advised campus committees on institutional priorities. His work has been instrumental in strengthening student involvement, supporting faculty and staff engagement, and fostering a sense of belonging within the university community.

Before joining Life University, Dr. Davis served as the Coordinator for Diversity & Inclusion for the College of Health Sciences & Professions and as an Associate Professor of Counseling at the University of North Georgia. His dedication to higher education and student development has earned him multiple awards for service and leadership.

Dr. Davis holds a doctorate from the University of Arkansas, a master’s degree from Columbus State University and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Georgia State University.
